September's fourth-of-the-month update is four days late. I apologize. Since Guatemalans tend to treat "late" as the norm, I submit this tardy blog post in their honor.
PRAY FOR THE OCTOBER MISSION TRIP
On October 6-12, a team of six volunteers will minister in Jalapa again. After Sunday worship activities, we will be at the Los Laureles clinic on Monday and Tuesday and at the Los Pinos clinic on Wednesday and Thursday. While there, we will restock both clinics with medicines, bathe babies from the dump and give diaper supplies (as part of Operation Amalia), provide refreshments to dump residents, offer afternoon children's activities, and give away sunglasses and reading glasses to people who come to the clinics. Pray for this team: Jeff Fowler, Christina Freese, Laura Helton, Connor Reece, Jared Ridgeway, and Randy Stewart.
CAN YOU HELP WITH SUPPLIES FOR OCTOBER?
Many of you have asked how to help with the October trip. Here are some supplies that we need donated:
GOLF CLASSIC PHOTOS
Last month's update included a summary of the second annual Four Friends Golf Classic on July 14 at Chesley Oaks Golf Course in Fairview. Here are a few pictures from the event:
LOS PINOS CLINIC TO OFFICIALLY OPEN
The new Los Pinos clinic was completed and dedicated in May and is ready to open on a daily basis. After our mission team departs, the clinic will continue to open it doors from Monday-Saturday of each week. Over six hundred patients will be treated there every month, just like in Los Laureles. All care will be free, including medications, and will be offered in the name of Jesus Christ and with the support of the mission church in Los Pinos.
SAY "HELLO" TO ALEJANDRA
Beginning today, the Los Pinos clinic has a live-in nurse. Alejandra has joined our team and will spend September being trained and oriented by Nurse Lilian at Los Laureles. She will also be moving into the apartment at the Los Pinos clinic and will be getting everything ready for October. We welcome Alejandra to the Four Friends team!
501(c)3 STATUS FOR FOUR FRIENDS INTERNATIONAL
In August, Four Friends International was granted 501(c)3 status by the Internal Revenue Service. This will enable the organization to expand its goals in the future. More will be shared about this in next month's update.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
"There is a deeper voice of God, which you must learn to hear and obey in the second half of life. It will sound an awful lot like the voices of risk, of trust, of surrender, of soul, of 'common sense,' of destiny, of love, of an intimate stranger, of your deepest self... The true faith journey only begins at this point. Up to now everything is mere preparation." - Richard Rohr (Falling Upward)
"Seek. Seek. Explore. Explore. And you shall find. You will find riches beyond your dreams... Take the journey. Seek. Explore. In all that exploring, you will ultimately find your way home." - Frank Donaldson
"Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." - Albert Einstein
"Anyone who wants to save his life must lose it. Anyone who loses his life will find it. What gain is there if you win the whole world and lose your very self?" - Jesus (Matthew 16:25-26)
