On November 6, Four Friends International will once again minister in person to the people of Jalapa, Guatemala. Due to COVID-related travel restrictions, I will journey there alone, strengthened by your prayers and support. The update below is a preview of the week.
a view of Jalapa from the city dump
Sunday, November 7
On Sunday morning, we will worship at the church in Los Laureles, located near the city dump. The rest of the day will be spent preparing for the upcoming clinics.
On Sunday afternoon, a visit will be made to the home of Kimberly. Through the generosity of many of you, surgery was performed in July to repair her congenital hip dislocation. She has been in a cast for several months and should be starting physical therapy soon.
Monday, November 8
Monday morning will be spent at the clinic in Los Pinos...
...and the afternoon at the clinic in Los Laureles
During lunch, we will minister again to the residents of the city dump. Hand-sewn dresses will be given to the little girls there, thanks to Edna Lawhorn of Orlinda, Tennessee (pictured below). She has used her talents to make over 70 petite dresses, and the first to receive these will be girls who live at the dump, such as the one in the photo below.
In addition, mothers from from the dump will bring their infants on Monday to receive diaper supplies through our Operation Amalia program.
Tuesday-Thursday
November 9-11
The Four Wheels Clinic of Four Friends International will begin its weekly ministry to three mountain communities near Jalapa.
The community of El Divisidero will be our location on Tuesday...
Higher up the mountains is Laguna Del Pito, where the Four Wheels Clinic will minister on Wednesday...
Below is the head leader, similar to a mayor, who has given us permission to provide medical care in the community.
Friday, November 11
As we leave Guatemala on this day, all these ministries will continue, thanks to your generous support. The clinics at Los Laureles and Los Pinos will provide free medical care, in the name of Jesus, on Monday through Saturday of each week. The Four Wheels Clinic will visit each of the three mountain communities twice weekly with free exams and medications. The babies at the dump will receive diaper supplies every week through Operation Amalia. And the supporting churches will continue to proclaim the good news to all who receive care.
A Final "THANK YOU"
Many of you have become aware that COVID restrictions have again plagued the mountain communities of Jalapa. People are unable to get their goods to the market, and the result has been hunger and malnourishment. This happened in 2020, and Four Friends International provided over $10,000 in food relief. We are again collecting funds for food relief and have thus far received over $6,000 designated for food. A $15 donation provides a bag of food that will feed a family for one week, so we now have enough funds to provide 400 families a week of food. The first donation will be sent to Jalapa on October 19. Thank you so very much!
We are still collecting funds for this purpose, and I will deliver a second donation for food relief in November. If anyone wants to give, send a check payable to "Four Friends International" and write "food relief" on the memo line. The check should be sent to:
